Hi, I’m Paul

I’m an engineering leader at Lloyds Banking Group, and I’ve spent 25+ years in UK banking. I’m still here because I genuinely love the challenge – making emerging technology work safely inside a regulated environment is a harder problem than most people realise, and I haven’t got bored of it yet.

What gets me out of bed is technical communities. I love watching someone’s face when they get a new technology working for the first time – whether that’s at a hack event, a meetup, or helping a colleague crack a problem they’ve been stuck on. I co-organise GDG Manchester and the AWS Liverpool User Group, and organising events has become one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

I’m a perpetual learner. I’ve got 35+ certifications across Google Cloud, AWS, and Azure – not because I think pieces of paper matter more than doing, but because the process of studying forces me to go deep in areas I might otherwise skim. That said, I’ll always value someone who’s built something real over someone who’s passed an exam. My 27 public repos and 2,000+ GitHub contributions last year are the proof that I practice what I preach.

I believe in sharing knowledge openly, supporting people in their careers, and the idea that the best technology adoption happens through communities, not mandates. If you want the formal career history, my CV is on LinkedIn. This site is the stuff that doesn’t fit on two pages.
